Ilene Beckerman (Love, Loss, and What I Wore) has a new blog.
Family Festivities
You’re just a button click away– and I’d love to hear from you.
About your world, your family, your joys and frustrations, growing up, growing older, even recipes– even though I stopped cooking–by request–years ago.
Goodbye until next time…
Hope your day turns out as well as I hope (but doubt) mine will,
Gingy
Had some free time and went thru your blogs and I never saw this one before.
It’s The end of February and the holidays are behind us so I’ll just quietly say
Peace and Love everyday.
Friends forevermore and ever,

Holiday Greetings….I know I’m late to this holiday table but I have been very busy making everything to put on my holiday table. The cookies….the cheesecake….the beef tenderloin and the roast pork with sauerkraut & apples. There’s more but I’ll stop here. Our table was full of chatter about work, school relatives we do like and those we don’t. We are very typical of all the guests talking at Ilene’s table. I loved my gifts this year. I got some matching pieces to my Lenox holiday china, some adorable Christmas characters to enhance my decorating theme, a gift certificate and a cook book from my favorite chef, Ina Garten. Can’t wait to try some of her recipes. Or, maybe I could share some of my recipes with her. And, just in case you might be thinking “What does this woman do for fun?” We got eight inches of “good packing snow” here in Charlottesville, VA about two weeks ago. I went outside and built a snowman complete with everything a self-respecting snowman should wear. He was awesome. It was a good Christmas. Hope yours was too. Ilene, keep making us laugh and giving us pause to reflect on what really matters. Love, from your friend. Joyce Lawrence

Sounds and looks like our Thanksgiving with the exception of ” Why did they sit me next to a Republican?” I send this message signed as follows:
From Sheila- your best RepublicanFriend since 1956 and my question is “Why did they seat me next to a left wing Democrat?”
If an elderly couple are healthy and can grow old together it is a blessing. However, if one partner is ill and the other is in physically and mentally in good shape then it is a difficult situation. Be grateful for what you have…life can change very quickly. Growing old is not for sissies. As we approach a new year I wish everyone a happy, healthy and peaceful 2019.
You have captured the universal holiday family table! I love it! You always say wht other people are thinking but don’t say–and you say it in a funny and interesting way.
I’m laughing and loving it..xoxox
you may not cook much but i still remember your noodles with sour cream and garlic powder that was wonderful when we were young.
Sounds like every family gathered for the holidays! Perfect!

COUNTRY GRITS AND SAUSAGE BREAKFAST CASSEROLE
2 cups water
½ teaspoons salt
½ cup uncooked quick grits
4 cups (16 oz.) shredded extra-sharp Cheddar cheese
4 eggs, beaten
1 cup milk
½ teaspoon dried whole thyme (I use regular thyme.)
1/8 teaspoon garlic salt
2 pounds bulk sausage, cooked, crumbled, drained (I use one pound of mild sausage and 1 pound of hot. I don’t care for hot sausage by itself, but it works well in this recipe and gives it a zing.)
Paprika
Bring water and salt to a boil; stir in grits. Return to a boil; reduce heat. Cook 4 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Combine grits and cheese in a large mixing bowl; stir until cheese is melted. In another bowl, combine eggs, milk, thyme, and garlic salt; mix well. Add a small amount of hot grits mixture to egg mixture, stirring well. Stir egg mixture into remaining grits mixture. Add sausage, stirring well. Pour into a 12-x 8- x2-inch baking dish. Sprinkle with paprika so it will brown nicely. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
Remove from refrigerator; let stand 15 minutes. Bake at 350 for 50-55 minutes. Yield: 8 servings (Recipe can be halved; bake at 350 in a 10- x 6- x
2-inch baking dish for 45 minutes.)
This casserole is great for Christmas Day breakfast. While the presents are being opened, the casserole bakes, and breakfast is ready while everyone is enjoying each other. I like making jumbo blueberry muffins for this casserole, but I make them the day before. Fresh fruit also works well as a side dish.
LOL!

So funny! We have a Vegan in the family and me personally I prefer the desserts, no lettuce to worry about-
